POKOTABI / Akasaka Eigetsu
赤坂詠月
Located on the fourth floor of an Akasaka building, Akasaka Eigetsu welcomes guests into an intimate setting run by the chef and landlady, serving an omakase course highlighted by nuanced dashi, seasonal seafood, and clay-pot rice.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Lifting the lid of a warm soup bowl releases a gentle curl of steam and the clean aroma of clear dashi broth crafted to coax out the natural sweetness and scent of each ingredient without relying on heavy seasoning. Situated on the fourth floor of an Akasaka building, Akasaka Eigetsu (赤坂詠月) serves multi-course Japanese cuisine that favors genuine, meticulous preparation and the unadorned flavor of seasonal produce over showy presentations.
The dining experience centers on an omakase menu weaving together carefully selected seasonal vegetables and fresh seafood. The nuanced depth of the house stock reveals itself in every dish, from a small bowl where gentle happo dashi cushions the rich sweetness of milt (shirako) to a soup course pairing precisely cooked kuruma prawn with ebi-imo yam. The meal progresses through a dynamic rhythm of sashimi handled with care for freshness or aging, fragrant grilled seafood, and simmered vegetables steeped in savory broth, leading to a satisfying conclusion of seasonal fish cooked in an earthenware clay pot. House-made sweets and a bowl of freshly whisked matcha bring the meal to a serene, lingering close.
With seating limited to a compact counter and a few table settings, the space keeps guests close to the chef and okami, whose watchful hospitality creates a welcoming sense of ease. At the counter, diners can observe the chef’s deft knife work and catch inviting aromas up close, settling in comfortably with glasses of sake or wine paired to the dishes. Evening service operates by reservation with attentive, thoughtful hospitality, making it well suited for anniversaries or quiet dinners shared with someone special.
